THEMA’s partner, Smart Energy Network (SEN), held its first member meeting on Tuesday 21st at Sentralen in Oslo. The topic for the first session was Innovation.
SEN’s ambition is to create a Nordic high-level competence network for inspiration, innovation and business creativity. THEMA is sponsoring Smart Energy Network for the period 2017-2020. In a time where the power sector is due to change radically, this cooperation will serve as a platform for staying up to date with the challenges and opportunities the industry are facing.
– Our ambition is to inspire to change, said the leader of Smart Energy Network, Ragnvald Nærø. – We are living in a challenging time, where old business models are not as profitable as they used to be. We are living in a time with huge demands for digitalisation and transition, where we experience competition from unexpected areas and players who think differently. Yes, we are living in a time where we all, more than ever, must check how steadily we stand in our established business. We must all ask ourselves: Is there anything we can do better? Are there new strategic choices that must be made? And above all – when is the right timing to act?
Daniel Ras-Vidal, Director of FIN/Abelia, was the first speaker out with a presentation about the approach to innovation in established companies. David Robertson, Professor at MIT, used LEGO’s approach to innovation as a case to show how companies can innovate around the box. He illustrated how a company can change the way they view innovation and where they search for it by “dating” and understanding the needs of the customer. The final presentation, by Ole Petter Novsett, Sales Director at Disruptive Technologies AS, focussed on smart energy and business potentials in the internet-of-things (IoT).
